Since 1978
We still sell the high efficiency wood heat we opened with in 1978, and a lot more besides.
Grass Roots Energy Inc. was founded in 1978 as an alternative retail outlet for high efficiency wood burning stoves and fireplaces. Over the years the product offering expanded to include gas burning fireplaces and stoves, pellet stoves, gas logs, fireplace doors and much more.
We have over 3,000 square feet showcasing the largest selection of wood-burning airtight fireplaces and stoves in Northern Illinois, along with the best products our industry has to offer. On a cold day a good number of them are burning, which is the part people remember.
When you visit the store you will be greeted with knowledgeable, friendly and dedicated staff. Our people will help guide you toward the best appliance for your home heating and enjoyment. We pride ourselves on being the wood burning experts of the Chicago area.
What has not changed since 1978
We strive to be green. Our stoves and fireplaces are all EPA approved, high efficiency and clean burning. You will not find any of our products in a big box store. What we sell is quality made and built to last, and whether you choose wood, gas or pellets, you will be able to heat your home for many years to come.
The crew
Our installation crew has 50 years of combined experience. They run the Class A chimney, reline the masonry, run the gas line and set the unit, and they are the same people you call when it needs a gasket in year seven.
We sell it, install it, and come back.
One crew runs the Class A chimney, the relining, the gas line and the appliance itself, with 50 years of combined experience. When it needs a gasket in year seven, you call the same shop.
